Need

I think that I have often been told to distinguish between a 'need' and a 'want' when asking for things from God. I have come to the conclusion that there is no difference between being in 'need' and being in 'want'. We are not called to sort our prayer requests into 'acceptable' and 'unacceptable' before placing them. You are acceptable to God and He wants to provide for you. That is enough.
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19.
Don't forget that God made you. He made you unique and wired into you desires, wants, and needs that only He could provide. These go beyond the basics of food, clothing, and shelter. They could include love, affection, fun, self-esteem, kindness, friendship, purpose, an evening to yourself etc etc. Whatever it is you want, God is the one to supply it. Ask Him for it, no matter what it is.
Right now I have an inexplicable desire to own a horse. I was mad for horses when I was a kid and suddenly the desire has resurfaced. I have no idea what it means (we are desperately suburban) but I find myself day dreaming about having my own horse. So I have asked God for it. This is certainly not a need but my want is of great interest and importance to God. He wants to answer my prayer. That doesn't mean He will necessarily give me a horse. It might not be the right thing (they cost a lot of money and they are a lot of work!) but because I have asked Him, He will address the need that my desire for a horse represents. But I need to trust Him. His knowledge of me is complete.
So contrary to what I was told as a teenage Christian, you can ask for a sports car, or a bike, or a pet dog. You can also ask for more time with Him, more affection from your husband, or a new haircut. God cares about every aspect of you and He wants to meet all your needs out of His abundant riches. But He wants to be asked, and trusted with the outcome. Desires are also needs. So ask Him, and He will provide for you.
