There are some things that we naturally do not doubt, and some that we always do. Our doubts and our fears can be peculiar to us. They are an amalgamation of things we have been taught, and experienced. They often arise out of our desire to protect ourselves.
But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. James 1:6,7.
Doubt can come in and spoil the most bright hopes and because the Enemy has watched us, he knows just what to suggest to make us waver, to speak into our fears.
When we hope for something and we ask the Lord it is important to decide at the beginning not to doubt - to decide to persevere in hope. Hope honours God and lifts us up. Doubt undermines faith, and can sink us into despair.
Sometimes we entertain doubt deliberately and call it 'wisdom'. Sometimes parents caution over-excited children, afraid that the event will not fulfill their hopes; afraid they will be disappointed. In God this cannot happen. He will always exceed what we can hope or imagine but it does take faith. Persevere in hope. Deliberately reject doubt and keep asking the God who is love for what you really desire.
